Reading and Writing Skills

Where can I go for help with my reading and writing skills? As an older non traditional student I have found writing to be fairly difficult. I have forgotten all of the "rules" and find myself spending more time on editing then writing!

Are these skills really needed????

  1. This is a place that I really struggle in also. I have found that having two different people proof my papers is a great way to make sure you haven't missed anything.

  2. There are a few resource books that will help you with writing too. Check out the book store or library. Just something that you can use to reference when you get stuck, or get you jump started when you have a particular type of paper to write.

Good reading and writing skills are very important. As well as a good vocabulary. You need to be able to express your ideas in a clear and concise way, and be able to understand others. If you want a fun challenge, read Pride and Prejudice. (or "and zombies") I found myself entertained by trying to figure out exactly what was ment by some of the turns of phrase. Felt like I was back in high school english again.

  3. These skills are absolutely essential for success in education or business. Having good writing skills ensures that your audience is paying attention to what you are saying, not how you said it. This also leads to more clarity and fewer miscommunications.

I agree with @Knight Bunch that having more than one person proof-read your work is very valuable.
